CivicSmart’s Executive Vice President of Operations, Maurice Nelson has established more than 25 years of management and operational oversight in public safety, policy development, and resource & strategic planning. Skilled in business process, operations management, and implementation he formerly held the position of Managing Director of Brekford Traffic Safety. There, he led this former start-up firm in the managing and strategic planning necessary to become a significant player in the transportation and traffic safety industry. Later Maurice assumed the role as Vice President of Program Development for Rekor Systems, a leading Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology firm. During his time there he oversaw the transition of several state, city, and countywide AI-based ALPR camera network systems and supporting operations. Earlier in his career he spent time in the public sector, there implementing and managing several major US cities and county-wide operations including, Washington [DC] and Montgomery County [MD] respectively. Maurice has successfully worked with dozens of municipalities in the US and Canada to assist them in achieving their logistical, planning, and financial objectives.
 

Recognized for his pioneering efforts in the field of automated traffic, Maurice possesses a vast array of critical organizational and operational skills. Through his various professional and political relationships, has developed impressive networks within the transportation, parking, and public safety communities. Maurice received his bachelor’s degree from Columbia Union College (MD), and Project Management Certificate from George Washington University, (WDC), holding several professional certifications in management and contract administration.
