In 2013, the Transportation Services Department of Iowa City solicited vendors to upgrade their existing on-street parking meter system, which consisted of Duncan Eagle CK meters. The City’s goal was to upgrade to a metering system that would provide real-time revenue, payment, and equipment inventory and status data. Duncan Parking Technologies was subsequently awarded the contract and implemented 1,175 Liberty credit card single-space meters. Over the next two years, the City purchased another 80 meters.
