Director of Operations

Reports To: Sr. Vice President, Engineering

FLSA Status: Exempt

The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing the functions necessary to deliver products on-time and on-budget through the management of staff responsible for order entry, supply chain, product configuration, quality assurance and testing, implementation, training and help desk support.

 

Additional responsibilities include tracking performance metrics, identifying best practices, implementing process improvements, documenting processes and developing staff.  Flexibility for limited travel preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for ensuring that the company’s goals and objectives regarding its daily operations are met including:

    • Overseeing timely and accurate order entry and supply chain management

    • Coordinating with internal and third-party engineering and manufacturing staff to ensure product performance and deliveries meet specifications

    • Scheduling and monitoring product implementations using effective project management skills

    • Developing internal and client training materials

    • Overseeing Help Desk support team including diagnosing issues and communicating with engineering staff on product improvements.

  • Provides a work environment for the staff that promotes workplace efficiency, accountability, and creative problem solving.

  • Aligns standards for the group and individuals with the company’s goals and measures performance against those goals.

  • Documents and continuously improves processes to deliver more efficient outcomes.

  • Manages projects and people within budget.

  • Interacts with clients on a regular basis including government department heads.

  • Effective and proactive staff management.

  • Interacts closely with other members of the senior management team.

Qualifications

Qualifications include:

  • Hard working with strong organization and time management skills

  • Excellent project management skills

  • Strong focus on accuracy and details

  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues via written communications (primarily email) and over the phone

  • Experience managing and developing technical, training, implementation and help desk staff

  • Comfortable communicating and coordinating with off-shore engineering and technical resources

 

Education and Experience Requirements Include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.  MBA or MS preferred

  • 8 years+ experience in operations management

  • Experience with work order tracking systems and Service Level Agreement compliance

  • Familiarity with manufacturing supply chain and product delivery principles

  • Proficient in MS Office and able to adapt to new programs; Experience with Jira/Confluence (Atlassian) a plus

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Employee will primarily work in an office environment where the following is typical:

  • Moderate noise level (business office with computers, printers, and light traffic)

  • Sitting, use of hands/arms, and talking frequently

  • Lifting up to 20lbs less than 10% of the time

  • Walking or standing less than 20% of the time

 

Employee will be asked to travel on a limited basis (~10%) to assist with project implementations and client meetings.

Direct Reports/Supervisory Responsibility

This position will supervise approximately 5-8 people.
