As founder and Chief Operating Officer of CivicSmart, Balu Subramanya has led the company’s efforts since 2015.  Having more than two decades of experience supplying parking, transportation, and mobility technological solutions he has established a reputation of creative solutions engineering in State, Local, and Federal markets. Balu’s emphasis on innovation and product enhancement, offers a unique vision for CivicSmart’s legacy customers as well as for newer, next-generation technologies. As a former Chief Technology Officer, he remains intimately involved in CivicSmart's technology adaptations - infusing into our team his objective of bringing innovative, emerging, and cost-sensitive solutions to the parking industry.  

Balu possesses an impressive track record of leading his former organizations in innovation. Those firms include Duncan Solutions, ACS State & Local (Conduent), and Raytheon Corp. at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. He has, in addition, overseen several other highly successful transportation technology start-ups to include Spectrovation, LLC and Global Technology Consultants. His forward-thinking approach in the fields of wireless embedded devices, Internet of Things (IoT), and software architecture & design, allows CivicSmart to continue its more than 70 years of mastery in the parking industry.

Balu continues to serve as subject matter expert and technology advisor for development of new generation parking sensors, wireless gateway applications, and intelligent transportation systems. Balu received his Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Bangalore (India) and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering-Communications and Space Sciences from Penn State University.
